Linz and I have been on a lot of beach adventures, as you know. We have seen a lot of people out on these stand up paddle boards. We have talked so many times about trying them. They look like so much fun. Our friends who live on the north end of the island have a pair and we self invited ourselves up to their place to try them out.
They are awesome friends and indulged us in the chance to give them a try.
These friends don’t live on a military base and they live within walking distance of a beach. They go their a lot and take their kids. They were kind enough to let us join them one evening.
To start off I didn’t dare just stand up for fear of eating it hard core. They are actually a lot more stable then you would think. McKay wanted to go on a ride with me so I still didn’t try standing up.
I don’t know exactly what is wrong with my face here. I really was having a good time.
Kennedy got to ride with me on the paddle boards. She was so excited about it that she kept wiggling and moving and I almost fell off a few times. I gave her the go pro to take pictures and this is one of the selfies she took.
Hayden found a good friend. Mostly Hayden just threw sand at him. Then Hayden would get mad when his friend didn’t want to play with him.
At one point the wives ran off to go and get food and me and the two other dads were left with the kids. Pretty much they all just climbed on the paddle board and pushed each other off. I had to keep track of Hayden. He is full time duty.
See what I mean. They just climbing up and then jumping off. McKay had a good time and there were plenty of boys to keep him happy.
Kennedy found a good friend there as well and they kept on “fighting” over her surfboard. She is getting pretty good at swimming these days and loves the water. Isn’t afraid to just get in there and swim. You can see her here dragging her friend. That is a hand on the left side of the him.
The wives came back with food. Okinawa Ramen. It was delicious. One of the first foods I tried while getting to Japan and of the the best classic foods you can always count on to be yummy. I took advantage of the down time to nap a few photos of the kids.
After dinner the sun was setting and Linz and I took one last advantage of the paddle boards and went out one last time. I took the GoPro out and tried to get some shots of us while out. Here are a few
McKay wanted to come out and join us and so he got in his boat, picked up a stick and started to paddle out to us. He got really far out there and we had to pull him back. He is such a cute kid. Loves adventures and hates it when we have one without him.
The only kids who hadn’t had a ride was Hayden. When we got back I popped him up on the paddle board and let him have a try. I was pretty nervous that he was gonna eat it and drown. But he didn’t even fall off.
What a cute kid right? He was giggling the whole time we were on the board. He thought it was the best time of his life.
Thanks for coming by and checking out our beach adventures. Linz and I keep thinking how great it is to live on an amazing island. There are really hard things about being in Okinawa. We are far away from family. We live in a tiny 8th floor apartment with government owned furniture. Yet living in Okinawa gives us a lot of chances we never will ever have again.
