After our last adventure Linz and I decided that we wanted more beaches. This beach was very different then the last one we went to. We didn’t really know what to expect until we arrived. But we were pleasantly surprised. Linz and I comment all the time about how beautiful the water is here. I honestly can’t describe it. My photos don’t really do it justice. The water here is so clear and clean. It has a blueish/greenish hue to it. I could just stare at it all day. It is perfect for diving, swimming or just dipping your feet in.
Ikei Island is one of the more popular islands attached to the main island of Okinawa. There is a popular resort there that attracts people. Linz and I went to this beach called Oodomari beach. It is not one of the well known beaches and isn’t quite as popular as the others close by. However this place is amazing for snorkeling! Especially for kids. There were tons of fish and Kennedy and McKay were able to see them just by putting their head in the water. Swarms of fish at like waist deep for them. It was awesome!
Linz and I both thought these fish almost followed you. Like no matter where we went in the ocean there was a ton of them around.
This is Kennedy taking her try at snorkeling. It didn’t last that long. But I got a picture to make it last a little longer!!!
I usually give Linz a hard time when she spends money, but most of the time the things she gets are worth it. But I usually don’t want to admit it. She bought this pop up tent because our beach umbrella we bought in Virginia Beach kept getting blown away. This tent was a good buy by Linz.
Hayden really enjoys the tent. He thinks it is his little man cave. And he knows that is where we keep the snacks.
See what I mean by snacks. We buy a new bag of chips before we leave and it comes back empty. All of our kids love chips. The biggest problem is that Hayden has to hold and carry the bag around. So eventually there is more sand in the bag than chips… But he won’t let us take it from him. His bag, his tent, his way…
Linz even got out there and enjoyed a little snorkeling time. Last year McKay had a hard time with the water but this year he is a champ! He doesn’t even hesitate to run to the water. Most of the time he is out of his car seat and has the car door open before we park! He literally runs down to the beach and we can hardly get sunblock on him before he is in waist deep!
Kennedy is, of course, the queen of everything she does. My biggest fear at the beach is that she thinks she is a better swimmer than she actually is. She always tries to go deeper than I feel comfortable. But she is a pretty good swimmer and has no fear.
Like I said she typically has no fear! I’m super proud of her for always going out there but at the same time it always makes me a little nervous. I guess there must be a life lesson in that right. You gotta let you kids go a little and test their strength, but be there close enough to catch them when they fall.
You see those little houses up on the hill that overlook the cove? Those are bed and breakfast type places that you can stay. Linz and I are totally going to stay there one of these times.
We enjoyed a little walk along the beach. The picture above to true to life because we are ALWAYS waiting on Kennedy. She is the last one out of the house, last one up in the morning and always likes to take her time. I guess she is not in a rush anywhere and she takes time to enjoy the moment. I should appreciate that about her right? McKay on the other hand is about a mile in front of us and we are always yelling at him to slow down. So I get pictures of Kennedy from her front and of McKay from his back. Things just always work out that way.
Well thanks for stopping by and checking up on us. We miss everyone back home. We know we are a long way away from everyone but we talk about everyone at home all the time. Okinawa right now is having a little political unrest because of poor decisions made by a few. Linz and I are trying to enjoy things to their fullest. Appreciating the little things that come.
But when we get to go to a beach like this, it makes things a little easier…
Here is a compilation of GoPro videos of our diving. You can see actually how close the fish were to us.
