Okinawa is made up of a bunch of different islands (similar to Hawaii). There are some that are close enough to drive to and are connected by bridges. Others you take a ferry and others you have to fly to. One of the things that we are looking forward to the most is exploring all of these islands! We are lucky to be in this part of the world and we are going to try and ake the most of it. Today we drove to one of the closer islands and went to the beach. White sands, blue warm water. Perfect day! The island itself is called Hamashiga Island. It is about half way, up the island (north and south). Our shade umbrella flew away 2 different times, but besides that it was pretty good. We also needed some food after spending most of the afternoon in the sun. We just drove around until we ran into something. Well we saw this sign that said Cafe Yamashita. We pulled over and went right in. It was actually a persons house that turned the upstairs into a bakery. She cooks mostly breads and pizza. But we ordered a handmade pizza and a different assortment of bakes goods. Super yummy! She was super friendly. Probably in her 60s. Picked Hayden right up. She took our picture and posted on her facebook page. It was a fun experience and we had a great Saturday!
The rest of these photos are a collection that I took with my GoPro while swimming at our pool on base. The sunset that night was amazing! The pool was perfect and the kids were laughing the whole time!
We have so much more to explore on this and the surrounding islands! We keep on telling ourself that we are going to be here for 3 years! That is almost as long as dental school was. It isn’t going to be like Virginia, one and done. But 3 years is quite a long time and we will have time to create some real memories. Let’s hope they are good!
